About Izhevsk State Medical University
Izhevsk State Medical University (formerly Izhevsk State Medical Academy) is a leading federal public higher medical education institution in the Russian Federation, under the Ministry of Health. Founded in 1933 in Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic, it achieved Academy status in 1995 and University status in 2025. The university has trained more than 21,500 doctors and nursing managers, and currently has over 2,800 students including international students. It employs 351 teachers including 86 Doctors of Medicine and 212 Candidates of Medicine across 52 departments and 28 clinical bases. The university has been training international students since 1988, with graduates from 113 states. Research activities span physiology, cardiology, paediatrics, surgery, forensics, dentistry, and nanotechnology-based pharmaceutical research. The university maintains international cooperation agreements with institutions in Hungary, Poland, Argentina, Greece, Serbia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
